Hawai’i County Roads, the good, the bad, and the ugly…
This important Forum topic that affects every resident of the County – our island’s roads. This West Hawaii Community Forum will focus on the state of the County’s roads, the maintenance, development priorities, plans and funding of our road system.
Hawai’i recently sold more than $200 million in State highways revenue bonds. Over $22 million is scheduled to be spent on badly needed repairs, maintenance, and improvements on the Big Island. Of the $22 Million much of the money has already been earmarked to be spent on road work for Akoni Pule Highway, Mamalahoa Highway, Kohala Mountain Road, Daniel K. Inouye Highway and Kawaihae Road.
What about badly needed maintenance and repair of collector and other roads that serve the County’s growing traffic demands? For example, a major and well-traveled east-West connector like Hina Lani Street now has grass growing up through the cracks and in the middle of the road. It’s clear that many of our existing roads need immediate attention along with the development of new County roads and other improvements.
Join us and find out how your taxpayers dollars are being spent to repair, restore, and improve the County’s extensive road system.
