Dr. Elizabeth Tam is Professor and Chair of Medicine at the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine in Honolulu. She is an educator, pulmonary physician, and was also the lead investigator on the Hawai’i Island Children’s Lung Assessment Scientific Studies (HICLASS).  Funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control, and the American Lung Association of Hawai’i, these studies explored the respiratory effects of Vog on nearly 2,000 Hawai’i Island schoolchildren.

The initial findings, publicly available at http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0160412016301052, provide insights about Vog, relative to other environmental and genetic factors that affect respiratory health.
