During the past 10 years, John Peard has worked in the Hawaii State Department of Health’s Hilo field office. John is a project manager for the Hawai`i Department of Health, Hazard Evaluation and Emergency Response Office (HEER Office).  His primary responsibilities include the oversight of assessments and cleanups of contaminated soil or groundwater sites on Hawaiʻi Island.

Since 2008, John has coordinated the HEER Office effort within a multi-agency response team framework designed to address volcanic emission impacts outside of Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park.   John has also been working with others to help address Vog issues, including the development of public health advisories, providing general educational materials, and advising on various protective measures.
