Maile David, Hawaii County Council member , District 6

Chair of the Committee on Finance, Human Services and Social Services, and Vice Chair of the Committee on Public Works and Parks and Recreation.

Ms. Maile David was re-elected as District 6 Council Member for the 2016-2018 Hawai‘i County Council and serves as Chair of the Committee on Finance, Chair of the Committee on Human Services and Social Services, and Vice Chair of the Committee on Public Works and Parks and Recreation.  Ms. David was born in Kealakekua, Kona and is of Hawaiian, Portguese and Filipino descent.  She attended public schools and graduated from Konawaena High School in 1970.  In 1971 Ms. David began her 30-yr. paralegal career until 2004 when she began working for the Hawaii County Council.  She is married to her husband, Russel David, II, since 1977.

Prior to being elected, both Karen and Maile were land use planning community advocates focusing on protection of cultural and natural resources.  Notably, Karen and Maile were personally involved and worked on two landmark Supreme Court cases regarding Native Hawaiian Gathering Rights and protection of our Public Trust resources, including a law requiring Cultural Impact Statements for land use approvals.

Maile David serves on the Hawai‘i County Council for District 6: Portion of North Kona, South Kona, Kā‘u, and the Greater Volcano Area.
