Chief Maunakea Ranger

Scotty Paiva oversees the 10 member Maunakea Ranger program. He and his rangers are the ambassadors for OMKM on the mountain. The rangers provide daily oversight of activities on UH managed lands, protects natural and cultural resources provides public safety and visitor information. They conduct daily patrols between the mid-level facilities at 9,000’ and the summit. Daily duties include emergency assistance, coordinating litter removal, trail maintenance, CDUP compliance and providing visitors with cultural information.

Mr. Paiva retired as a Battalion Chief from the Hawaii County Fire Department and commander with the Coast Guard Reserve.
