Wil Okabe was appointed by Mayor Harry Kim and confirmed by the County Council as the Managing Director for the County of Hawai‘i on December 21, 2016. Prior to working with the Mayor’s Office Okabe was employed with Hawaiʻi’s Department of Education for almost three decades and then served for 6 years as the Hawaiʻi State Teachers Association President. More recently he was Governor Ige’s representative for East Hawai‘i. Okabe serves on various community boards including the State Aquatic and Wildlife Commission, and Dream Come True.
